To help kick off Fire Prevention Week Activities in Ontario Mr. Bernard
A. Moyle, Ontario Fire Marshal will be visiting Ottawa, Hawkesbury,
Stittsville, Kingston, Toronto, Grimsby and Brampton.
Mr. Moyle will be meeting with Fire Chiefs and participating in local
activities. On Monday October 4 Mr. Moyle will be in Ottawa meeting Mayor
Bob Chiarelli and Ottawa Fire and Rescue Chief Rick Larabie at City Hall
where there will be a practice fire drill. In Hawkesbury and Stittsville
Mr. Moyle will tour local fire stations and participate in local
activities.
On Tuesday, October 5, Mr. Moyle will be in Kingston to help kick-off
their new smoke alarm programme and to speak to a class of grade five
students at École Cathedrale.
The theme of this year's campaign is "Test Your Smoke Alarms!" and it
aims to teach people to install and test their smoke alarms and also to
develop and practise home fire escape drills.
A series of print and radio public service announcements will be used
to help get the message across to the public. All too frequently
firefighters report fires where there was no alarm, or no functioning
alarm. The message is simple - smoke detectors save lives.
