At 03:20 Saturday, January 21, 2006 the Service de Protection Incendie
to Montreal responded to a call for an unknown odour at 12495 Langelier
Blvd. Arriving crews found nothing showing on arrivel however a fire in one of
the apartments was quickly discovered. A total of five alarms were
sounded to bring the fire under control.
All of the residents were safely evacuated.
The body of Captain Marcel Marleau (Station 14, Group 1) was later
found on the first floor where the fire began. Another firefighter
suffered second degree burns but was treated and released at Hotel Dieu
Hospital.
An experienced firefighter Capt. Marleau joined the Montreal Fire
Department in 1978 and was promoted to captain in 2000. On several
occasions he was decorated for bravery and was proud to serve the citizens
of Montreal.
Aged 47 years, Marcel Marleau leaves a wife and children as well as
many friends and colleagues mourning his passing.
Our thoughts go with the Marleau family, the Service de Protection
Incendie de Montreal and the people of Montreal.
