The St-Paul-Ile-aux-Noix, QC, fire department had an opportunity for
some live fire training on July 17, 2004. A local farmer wishing to
expand his field and remove a house which he no longer wanted on his farm
donated the building to the department for practice.
The St-Paul-Ile-aux-Noix department is under the direction of Daniel
Gamache and includes 3 pumps, 2 tankers, 1 quint, 1 rescue and 1 first
responder unit. The 36 man volunteer department operates out of two
stations. The department also provides protection for St-Valentin and
St-Blaise and is part of the Clinton County, NY, mutual aid system.
Rescue Hose 5 from Plattsburgh, NY who provide breathing air and
manpower support to the mutual aid system. Several different fire
situations were set up. Following the final exercise the house was
allowed to burn freely until completely destroyed.
