A call was recieved by 9-1-1 at 17 :00 on Monday August 14, 2006 for a road accident facing 3312, 2e rang, Ste-Justine de Newton. Jaws were requested immediately. Since the jaws were sent on the initial call it was possible to start rendering aid quickly to help the possible survival of the victims.
The call to the Service Incendie de Ste-Justine de Newton as well as the automatic call for the Jaws of Life from Ste-Marthe was made. Once on the scene firefighters confirmed the presence of two persons in the vehicle.
The director from Ste-Marthe took charge of the extrication operations and the director from Ste-Justine took overall command. Two ambulances and two police cars as well as a wrecker from the J.D. Leroux garage were called to the scene.
The woman was transported to the Centre Hospitalier Régional du Suroît in Valleyfield, for serious injuries. The man who was in the car was declared dead at the hospital. The condition of the woman, at time of writing is not known.
Contrary to some media reports there was no child in the vehicle.
